Meet me
Hello! I’m Valeriia, a Ukrainian native who has called Canada home for the past decade.
I am a registered social worker with a strong interest in policy, social justice, human rights, and international law. My academic and professional focus has centered on immigration and refugee resettlement, areas that are deeply personal to me, both through my lived experience and my connection to the Ukrainian Canadian diaspora.
Since arriving in Canada, I have been closely involved in the Ukrainian Canadian community, organizing cultural and advocacy events on campus and beyond. This work has been an important part of how I stay connected to my roots. Sharing Ukrainian culture and raising awareness about Ukraine’s resilience, as well as the realities of war and displacement continues to shape both my personal and professional path.
I have written about issues such as Ukrainian prisoners of war, the deportation of Ukrainian children and the lasting impact of colonialism on cultural identity. I’m also a passionate book lover, drawn to stories and reflections on social issues, identity, and belonging.
My writing here will be a space to share my thoughts and experiences, exploring everything from cultural identity, social justice advocacy to personal and professional challenges.
